News Cambodian player meets Lewis Hamilton

Team players from 48 nations met Lewis Hamilton at the VodaFone Press Conference at Homeless World Cup Milano today.

Sporting fans around the globe would love the opportunity to meet a champion such as Formula One World Champion and Vodafone ambassador Lewis Hamilton. 17 year old Cambodian street soccer player Rithy Chan had the chance of a lifetime to meet Hamilton, ask him questions and share his experiences with the World Champion.

Rithy, amongst other players in competing nations, got the chance to speak to Lewis and showed a sense of humour asking “Team Cambodia are short a couple of players this year, could you come and play with team Cambodia?” asked Rithy. To which Lewis replied “I am very busy, another time I would love to play with team Cambodia”

Irishman Paraic Grogan who is Team Manager of team Cambodia and Chairperson of HFCA (Happy Football Cambodia Australia) the coordinating body that got the team to Milano, accompanied Rithy to meet the Lewis at the conference.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a player such as Rithy to meet such a champion. It was fantastic to be there to witness Rithy meeting him and speaking with him. It is already a tremendous experience to be here in Milano playing soccer let alone meeting a sporting super star such as Lewis Hamilton” Grogan said.

In the press conference Lewis Hamilton said: “Meeting the players here today has been a great experience and it’s inspiring to see how the power of sport can change people lives. I hope for a team from my Home nations to win, maybe between us we’ll be able to pull off a double victory this weekend.”

Hamilton finished his visit with by kicking off the England v Portugal game before heading off to Monza.
