We invited 20 plus players and considering it was holiday season were delighted that eight of them made it. Players from the 2009 Milan, 2010 Rio, 2012 Mexico City Homeless World Cups came along as well as players who went to Poland. It was great to sit down and catch up with all of them and hear about their lives now.
Two of the players recently returned to high school and are now in year nine. Considering they are young men and therefore older than most of their classmates that shows a lot of courage. They said been part of the Homeless World Cup inspired them to go back to school. The players talked and laughed a lot about their time overseas, wishing they could return to those great days when they represented their countries but also content with life now. Six of the players present now work for HFCA in a paid capacity as coaches and mentors for the next generation. All the staff really enjoyed seeing the players again.
