Over his nine years of engagement and sponsorship of HFCA’s work in and in particular rural communities in Siem Reap, Jan is convinced of the benefits of getting behind HFCA.

“I would also like to encourage potential sponsors (both companies and private persons) in Cambodia and overseas to consider supporting and sharing in the success of HFCA.”

In April 2026 Jan supported in-person the participation of our U16 Girls Team in the JSSL 7s tournament. “Participation in the tournament in Singapore is a testimony how enduring and committed community work and engagement with vulnerable youth leads to life-changing experiences”

“Participation in the travel has further convinced me of the impact of HFCA on the life of the youth and continuing my support of HFCA over the long-term.”

Jan’s support for HFCA is so much more than sponsoring programs. He values the long-term commitment of HFCA “I enjoy being part of the continuity of the work, long-term vision and achievements of HFCA since its foundation in 2005. Having close working and personal ties with the Founder is great and  mingling with staff, volunteers and beneficiaries during my visits to Cambodia and participation in the recent tournament in Singapore is fantastic.”

With support from Jan, HFCA started  operations in three villages in Siem Reap province. Whilst impressed with the community spirit when he visited Oroong Village, he realized the challenges the community faced, in particular remoteness, underemployment and lack of livelihood opportunities.

Initially Jan was sponsoring some of our community football projects in Phnom Penh but as we grew and expanded our work in Siem Reap, HFCA and Jan developed a plan to expand into the rural communities.

‘’Rural areas are often the poorest and most vulnerable areas in developing countries due to lack of employment opportunities and distance to quality public services.’’

Long standing sponsor Jan Hansen backs Oroong Village youth to succeed on and off the pitch

In 2017 HFCA were fortunate to meet Jan Hansen who was working in Phnom Penh at the time. Jan’s work for a major international development finance institution gave him a clear understanding of the challenges Cambodia faces. Supporting community development in Africa and Asia for more than 20 years he was impressed with HFCA’s work in Cambodia with underprivileged youth through football.

“I am working in international development cooperation in Asia and have a genuine personal interest in community development and support of vulnerable children. I also believe that sports and football are very helpful and effective to support the growing-up of children in all circumstances and vulnerable environments such as remote rural areas in particular’’
